Our Story

About Future Enlightenment

A community-led charity built on trust, fairness, and care.

Our Mission

Why we exist

Future Enlightenment (FE) was founded in 2009, initially to address the needs of people of Congolese and French-African origin living in Hackney.

Subsequently, our work expanded to include all migrants in distress and low-income families facing similar difficulties. Through consultations, surveys, and meetings, we identified the difficulties they encounter daily: loneliness, language barriers, family breakdown, mental health issues, homelessness or the risk of homelessness, and limited access to support services.

Today, our mission is to promote social integration, equality, and inclusion by supporting migrants in difficulty, including refugees, asylum seekers, and people from ethnic minorities, as well as all other migrants in difficulty in North London. We help these individuals improve their lives and fully integrate into their communities.

Our Vision

A North London where every person — regardless of where they come from — has an equal chance to build a good life and reach their full potential.

Our Mission

To promote social integration, equality, and inclusion by supporting migrants in distress — helping everyone access services, employment, education, and a better life.

Our Principles

How we work, every day.

01

Free, always.

No fees, no insurance, no referral needed. The first thing that breaks when life gets hard is access — we refuse to be one more thing in the way.

02

Your language, your pace.

We speak English, French, Lingala and other languages. We meet people where they are, without judgement, and move at the pace that works for them.

03

Community-led, always.

The people we support shape what we do. Lived experience isn't just welcomed — it drives our decisions, our services, and our values.

04

Show up, then keep showing up.

Consistency matters more than expertise. Same place, same welcome, every week — for as long as it helps. That's the whole model.
